The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office utilizes Guardian Alliance Technologies to begin the online application phase and background portion of the hiring process, and the National Testing Network for the written test components.

Applications through Guardian are sent via email invitation only. Please email Executive Assistant Ashley Carlson with your first and last name, email address, phone number, and which position you wish to apply for at amcarlson@dekalbcounty.org to receive a link to the online application process through the Guardian Portal. This is the official place where your application process begins!

PLEASE NOTE THE GUARDIAN APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED IN ITS ENTIRETY (PHOTO, BIRTH CERTIFICATE, HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA / EQUIVALENT, OR COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS, AND RELEASE OF INFORMATION WAIVERS MUST BE ATTACHED) AND HAVE TO BE SUBMITTED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR EMPLOYMENT!

DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office offers full testing services for the positions of Corrections Deputy and Telecommunicator through National Testing Network (NTN). To register with NTN and schedule a test, go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com, select “Find Jobs”, then select either “Corrections Jobs” or “Emergency Communications Jobs” for Telecommunicator and sign up for DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

When you visit the www.nationaltestingnetwork.com website:
  • Complete the NTN registration process and schedule your test.
  • Review all information related to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office position, including minimum requirements, salary, and benefits.
  • Review all detailed information about the testing process.
  • Review the Frequently Asked Questions and take an online practice test (if desired).

    Upon completion of your scheduled exam, scores are automatically forwarded to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. Candidates who attain a passing score on the entry level exam will be contacted to participate in further stages of the selection process.

    National Testing Network is a service provided to conduct entry level testing in a standardized, professional environment. National Testing Network does not replace the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office responsibility and decision making in the testing process. All candidate results are provided to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office where the final decisions are made.

  • Corrections/Patrol Applicants

    • Must be at least 21 years of age.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license.
    • Applicants for patrol/corrections begin their career in the Corrections Division.

    Segment #1

    The application and written test components must be passed to progress in the testing process. After a candidate has submitted a completed application and successfully passed the written test components, they will move on to Segment #2.

    Segment #2

    After a candidate completes Segment #1, they will be scheduled for an oral interview conducted by the Merit Commission. The exact date, time, and location for the oral interview will be determined at a later date.

    ELIGIBILITY LIST

    Those individuals who successfully pass both segment 1 and 2 of the testing process will be placed on the specific eligibility list for Corrections/Patrol or Telecommunications Divisions for the Sheriff's Office. Once on the eligibility list, it is then up to the Sheriff to select individuals from the list to move forward and complete the background phase of the testing process. You will be notified if you have been selected to move forward.

    Once the background phase has been completed to the Sheriff’s satisfaction, the candidate will then undergo psychological and polygraph exams. An official job offer will only be given if the candidate has successfully passed both psych and poly exams.


    DISQUALIFIYING FACTORS

    Applicants are advised that areas for disqualification from further consideration include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Illegal Drug Use - Marijuana use will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • Applicants who have used any other illegal drug within the past five (5) years will be disqualified.
  • Any felony conviction.
  • Driving Record - This includes receiving a DUI/DWAI within the past five (5) years, having your driver's license suspended for any reason within the past five (5) years, and having five (5) or more tickets within the past five (5) years.
  • Outside activities which may be deemed a conflict of interest.
  • Revelation or discovery of assaultive behavior.
  • Documented record of prior poor work performance.
  • Unsuccessful completion of any basic requirement.
  • Inability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Police history - type, frequency, and nature of contacts(s).
  • Providing false or misleading information during the application/selection process.

    It is the policy of the Sheriff’s Office to not discuss the reasons why applicants were not selected for hire. There is no flexibility to this policy. Applicants may be notified of their disqualification at any point in the selection process. If you receive such a notice, it simply means that you do not meet our standards at this time. Receiving this notice does not indicate that you are ineligible to apply with other agencies.
